Janet Guernsey Award

At the New England Section Meeting Nov 2-3, 2001 at Keene State College of the American Association of Physics Teachers and the American Physical Society, the American Association of Physics Teachers New England Section awarded the Janet Guernsey Prize for Excellence in Physics Teaching to Dr. Morton M. Sternheim

The Citation presented with the award reads as follows:

Whereas Dr Morton Sternheim has dedicated many years to the profession of teaching physics, and whereas by virtue of his interest in physics pedagogy at both the college and pre-college level he has lead programs and conducted workshops to improve the quality of physics teaching and whereas he has spent uncounted hours dedicating himself to these tasks, and whereas he has written a textbook that includes topics needed for biology and pre-med students, The New England Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers is proud to present to Dr Morton Sternheim the 2001 Janet Guernsey Award for Excellence in Teaching."

Nominees for the Janet Guernsey award are evaluated using the following:

3. Contributing to the Strength and Growth of the School's Physics Program

4. Undertaking Professional Development to Continually Improve as a Teacher

5. Working Effectively as a Colleague with Others in the Department

6. Mentoring New Teachers as Appropriate
