Teachers Implementing Imaging and Imagery for Classroom Learning

Request for Nominations for LEAD TEACHERS

As part of its development of a proposal to the Commonwealth Information Technology Institute (CITI) for a grant to fund professional development of K-12 teachers in the use of imaging technology, the PV STEMNET seeks nominations from superintendents, principals, and educational technology directors for LEAD TEACHERS.

TI3CL is seeking 4-6 teachers to be lead teachers in this professional development project. They will help to design a summer workshop and academic year follow-up activities for other teachers, and will assist in the teaching of the summer workshop. In addition they will participate in action research studies during fall 2005 of their teaching using imaging technology as part of the evaluation of the project, and will present at least one workshop on imaging technology to their peers. Lead teachers will receive a stipend of $500 for spring 2005 and a stipend of $750 for the summer workshop. In addition, they will receive for their use in their schools a digital camera and imaging software valued at approximately $400.

Qualifications: Lead teachers should be classroom teachers who use imaging technology in their teaching. As "early adopters" of this technology, their classroom use should be identifiable as "promising practices" that can be used as exemplars for the summer workshop. TI3CL aims to have a group of lead teachers whose teaching spans the range of grade levels and subject areas. Lead Teachers must be employed in schools in the Pioneer Valley region.

District support: The teachers' school districts should be prepared to commit to providing resources for the lead teachers to give a workshop to other teachers in their district, and to purchase at least three additional cameras and the necessary supplies.

Application process: Nominated teachers should prepare a statement of how they use imaging technology in their classroom. The statement should include examples of teacher and student work. They should also include in their application package a copy of a recent resume and a letter of support from their school principal or superintendent. The application package can be submitted electronically or through the US mail. Applications are due by 5PM on January 12, 2005.
