Governor's STEM Advisory Council Meeting

The Governor's STEM Advisory Council will meet on May 23 at Berkshire Community College. They usually meet in the eastern part of the state,so this is much closer to home for us. The Council is chaired by the Lt. Governor, who is hoping for a large public turnout. It should be an interesting meeting. The location:

MASS 8th graders near top in TIMSS math and science

Massachusetts eighth-graders outperformed most countries on a highly regarded international math and science exam, according to results being released Tuesday, offering fresh evidence that the state’s educational system rivals academically powerful nations around the globe.

In the science part of the test, only Singapore outscored Massachusetts eighth-graders. In math, Massachusetts trailed only South Korea, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Japan; 63 countries took the test.

PVSTEMNet "wow" project

The (little) wow project is a local PV STEMNET initiative inspired by the Pipeline’s @scale WOW project which brings STEM professionals into classrooms. This initiative will help to foster interactions of K12 students with regional STEM resources and with college STEM students. It will offer grants up to $1000 to support transportation and other costs needed to make this program work. More information.
